Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get tickets?

  • Ticket sales are online-only at HudsonRiverRail.com. We are not able to take orders over the phone.

  • Prior to the on-sale time, the ticket purchasing window will be visible, but the available dats will not yet be shown.

  • When tickets go on sale, be on our home page and refresh at 10am to reveal the available dates.

  • Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

In-demand dates sell out quickly, so we suggest being online right at 10 a.m. to be at the front of the line!

Is the train WHeelchair or handicap accessible?

Due to the historic nature of our antique railroad cars, they are not accessible by wheelchair.

For those with limited mobility, the walk from the Metropolitan Lounge to the train is approximately 1000 feet. Penn Station is wheelchair accessible up to the door of our train. You are welcome to bring a foldable wheelchair or walker, but it is necessary to walk a hallway approximately 40 feet long to reach your seat. Larger scooters or mobility devices are not permitted as the cars do not have room to bring them on-board. The restrooms in both cars are small, and also not accessible by wheelchair or walker.

Is there assigned seating?

There is not assigned seating. We deliberately sell no more than 70% of the seats in each car for passenger comfort, and to allow folks to spread out and enjoy the different types of seating that our historic train cars provide.

Are children allowed and do they need a ticket?

All passengers, regardless of age, must purchase a ticket to be on board. All ages are welcome in the Tavern-Lounge No. 43. Passengers in the Hickory Creek must be at least 16 years old. Keep in mind that Hudson River Rail Excursions is an experience designed for adult riders, and is not recommended for young children. For shorter, more kid-centric train rides, we highly recommend Black River & Western Railroad and Whippany Railway Museum, in New Jersey, Catskill Mountain Railroad in New York, and Railroad Museum of New England and Shoreline Trolley Museum in Connecticut.

Can you accommodate people with DieTary restrictions?

For those riding in the Hickory Creek, our chef is happy to accommodate allergies as best they can. When submitting your meal choice, we will ask if you have any dietary restrictions. Please be as detailed as you can be. For those riding in the Tavern-Lounge No. 43, food is catered and not made in our kitchen, so we cannot guarantee whether the food can meet your needs. However, in either car, those with dietary restrictions are always welcome to bring food on board.

Do you have vegetarian or vegan options?

We do provide a vegetarian option in both cars. We do not provide a vegan option at this time.

Do you have KOSHER options?

We unfortunately are unable to provide kosher options.

Can I board at Albany or intermediate points?

While the Amtrak train to which our cars will be attached does make stops, for safety reasons, all passengers must board at New York Penn Station.
